The Shepherd Center holds a very special place in my heart. Like many, I used to strongly dislike nursing homes. I never imagined placing a loved one in one let alone ever wanting to be in one myself. I hated the smell, the atmosphere, and the feeling they gave me. But life often forces us into difficult decisions. When my dad needed more care than we could provide at home, we found ourselves searching for a better option. The Shepherd Center became our answer and truly, a blessing.

 

From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed him with open arms and cared for him like family. The atmosphere felt like home. We formed meaningful relationships with both the staff and residents, connections that have forever touched our lives. Not long after, my mom also moved in and she has enjoyed her time there immensely. Then life threw us another challenge when my mother-in-law suffered a stroke. After her initial recovery in a Wichita rehab center, the Shepherd Center stepped in once again. They transported her to Cimarron and thanks to their dedicated rehab therapists, she was able to walk again.

 

The care here goes far beyond the basics. Whether it's a “special sandwich”, made-to-order breakfast, engaging activities, or concerts from local talent; they do their best to meet every resident's needs and lift their spirits. I often joke that I’m ready to check in myself!

 

In my opinion, the Shepherd Center is a shining example of what long-term care should look like. It’s more than a facility, it’s a home filled with love, compassion, and community.
